About Sweet Creek Falls
Sweet Creek Falls is a popular hiking destination near Mapleton, Oregon. The trail is an out-and-back route spanning 1.8 miles in total. It is widely regarded as an easy path, typically taking around 49 minutes to complete. As it attracts many visitors, you can expect to encounter fellow hikers and runners during your exploration.
The Sweet Creek Falls hike treats you to a captivating display of waterfalls. The main attraction features four tiered-plunges, each ranging from 10 to 30 feet in height. Together, these tiers create a stunning multiple waterfall effect, cascading for a total distance of 70 feet. As you traverse the trail, you’ll also encounter numerous smaller falls that add to the enchanting atmosphere. Sweet Creek Falls serves as the grand finale of this picturesque hike, leaving visitors in awe of its natural beauty.
The trail remains open throughout the year and offers breathtaking scenery regardless of the season. While dogs are allowed on the trail, it is required to keep them leashed.
Trail Overview
To fully enjoy the hike, you can begin at any of the four trailheads available. The recommended starting point is the Homestead Trailhead, which is the first one you’ll come across on the north side. Alternatively, you can choose to start at the Sweet Creek Falls Trailhead, Wagon Road Trailhead, or Beaver Creek Falls Trailhead for shorter hiking options. Regardless of the trailhead you select, each one offers its own unique experience and varying distances to explore the beauty of the area.
Where is Sweet Creek Falls?
Sweet Creek Falls trail is located in Western Oregon by the coast and is situated in the Siuslaw National Forest, which is in the coastal mountain range. The falls are near the town of Mapleton, which is approximately 17 miles east of Florence, Oregon.
Directions: At Siuslaw Bridge in Mapleton, leave Hwy 126 and drive south on Sweet Creek Rd for 11 miles.
Parking at Sweet Creek Falls Trailhead
Parking can be found at both the beginning (#1 – Homestead Trailhead) and toward the southern end (#2 – Sweet Creek Falls Parking Lot).
The trail and parking are also free! No permits are required 🙂
Unique features of Sweet Creek Falls Trail
There is a section of the trail that has a wooden bridge that wraps around the canyon allowing you to get a great view of Annice Falls. It wasn’t a problem for our doggo, but some might be timid to cut across it.
The trail winds through the lush and picturesque Siuslaw National Forest. Hikers are immersed in the tranquil ambiance of the coastal mountain range, surrounded by towering trees, verdant vegetation, and the soothing sounds of nature.
