Explore Cannon Beach!
Across all 15 countries and 35 states, I’ve seen in my life, there are still very few places that are as stunningly beautiful as the Oregon Coast. One of the top destinations on the Oregon Coast is Cannon Beach and Haystack Rock.
The cute seaside town is home to a number of restaurants, hotels, breweries, and summer activities (check out the end of this post for our top Cannon Beach destinations). From May to September it is a bustling hub of fun and adventure, during the winter months it is a misty haven for those looking to rest and recharge.
On this particular trip, we took my sister’s oldest pup Sirius (5y/o) and he had a grand time swimming and exploring the beach with us.

Though the water along the Oregon Coast is a bit chilly for a casual ocean swim, the bright blue waters and beautiful scenery make it an amazing place to plop down for a day or weekend (or maybe the rest of your life if you’re lucky!)

Our Top Tips for exploring the Cannon Beach region:
- Bring a sweater: Regardless of the season, the Oregon coast is known for unpredictable weather. We have been there in July when it’s pouring rain and we’ve been there in January when it’s 60 degrees and sunny. Check the weather and come prepared for the cold and enjoy the sun when it’s around!
- Prepare for limited resources: Part of the charm of the Oregon coast is that it is still very much underdeveloped. You will drive for miles without seeing houses or even another person sometimes. With this comes limitations in supplies. Around the Cannon Beach area you there are plenty of convenience stores, restaurants, and gas stations, but when trying to branch out a little farther keep in mind the minimal development you might find.
- Four-wheel drive it: This will allow you to drive right up on the beach (which is common along the Oregon coast) and park all day!
- Have fun!: There are so many adventures to have, check out our top 10 things to do on the Oregon Coast Bucket List!
