Will Morriss, Founder and Author of Oregon Tails, on trail in the Pacific Northwest

Will Morriss is a hiking expert, outdoor writer, and founder of Oregon Tails, a travel and adventure platform dedicated to helping people discover the best hikes, trails, and outdoor experiences across the Pacific Northwest.

The short version: Will grew up hiking and camping with his family, came up through the Boy Scouts, and hiked the Appalachian Trail before making the cross-country move to Oregon in August 2018. Photography has been a parallel thread the whole time, which is part of why cameras and optics have their own dedicated coverage on Oregon Tails alongside boots, packs, and tents.

With over 20 years of firsthand hiking experience, Will has explored hundreds of trails throughout Oregon and the broader PNW, from coastal waterfalls to alpine backcountry routes. He’s also a working outdoor writer who has published hundreds of articles for brands across the industry. The trail miles and the editorial background are why Oregon Tails exists. His work combines real-world trail testing, detailed route analysis, and practical travel guidance to help readers plan safe, memorable outdoor adventures.

Through Oregon Tails, Will publishes in-depth hiking guides, seasonal travel insights, and curated gear recommendations based on actual field experience, not just research. When he’s not writing, he’s actively exploring new trails with his dog Sammy.
